If you can still find the original Brooks Glycerin Max, it’s my favourite high-cushion shoe of the past year for marathon training.

It’s bouncier, more responsive, and lighter than the newer version while still offering excellent protection from impact and vibration over long distances.

It can feel slightly unstable, so it’s best suited to straight-line running rather than sharp turns. The Glycerin Max 2 is still a solid option, but it’s heavier and less responsive.
